About upgrades to Smart+

Smart+ is evolving to deliver features you expect, controls you want, and performance you need across every lower-funnel objective. Manual and Smart+ experiences have been unified into a single flow, offering a more flexible ad buying experience where you can fine-tune your campaigns with new levels of control. With the upgraded experience, you can tailor your campaign to full automation, partial automation, or fully manual.

The upgraded Smart+ experience is available for the Sales, Lead Generation, and App Promotion objectives.

Navigating the updated flow

Campaign level

When you create a new Sales, Lead Generation, or App Promotion campaign, you'll first need to decide your budget strategy:

  • Automatic campaign budget: Enter one budget for your entire campaign, and we'll automatically allocate it across ad group for optimal performance.

  • Custom ad group budgets: Input different budgets and optimization settings for each ad group.

Smart+ campaigns now have automated rules. Note: When using an automatic campaign budget strategy, bid adjustments will apply to all ad groups. Additionally, if you run an automatic budget campaign, all ad groups must use the same budget and bid strategies.

Ad group level

At the ad group level, you can edit the following settings:

  • Optimization and bidding: includes your desired optimization location, the optimization goal, and the Target CPA.

  • Budget and schedule: available budget settings will depend on whether you are using the automatic campaign budget strategy.

  • Audience targeting: choose the appropriate targeting strategy, including whether to use audience controls or switch to manual targeting. Learn more about targeting in the upgraded Smart+ experience.

  • Placements and brand safety: Automatic placement is set by default. If you prefer more manual control, choose the Select placement option and choose the specific placements you'd like to include. You can additionally choose brand safety options.

Ad level

At the ad level, you'll add your creative assets from your TikTok posts or creative library. If you include a destination URL, a Recommended tab will appear in the Add creative window, suggesting assets based on your website content and recent performance data. Ads will be generated based on combinations of your videos and ad texts, and the high-performing combinations will be automatically delivered.


You can add multiple ads, and each ad functions like an asset group, with its own destination URL, product set, and up to 50 creative assets. This new structure enables you to include multiple URLs and product sets within the same ad group or campaign.


Additional automation features available at the ad level include:

  • Enhanced ad formats: New ad formats such as CTA creation have been introduced to help you maximize campaign impact. The system now automatically generates tailored ad formats with pre-filled details based on your inputs, such as product information. Learn more about product information and ad format variations.

  • Simplified Spark Ads setup: Spark Ads selection and creation has been simplified to deliver a more efficient setup experience and help you fully unlock the value of your organic content. Learn more about creating Spark Ads for Smart+ campaigns.

  • New Smart+ Symphony tools: Introducing Recommended Creatives and Automatic Enhancements, two Gen AI powered tools designed to streamline campaign creatives. Recommended Creatives can generate new assets, while Automatic Enhancements optimizes your assets with resizing, quality boosts, translation and dubbing, and more.

  • Flexible Catalog Ads creation: Catalog Ads can now be implemented at the ad level, providing greater flexibility in how advertisers can adopt catalog creatives and allowing both catalog and non-catalog ads to run within the same campaign.
